Assign Text Note: Batch-update Revit text notes from element data

Text notes in Revit are static — they do not update when the model changes. When parameter values shift during design revisions, every related text note must be updated manually. Assign Text Note by BIMStudio bridges this gap by populating text notes with live parameter data from model elements.

What Assign Text Note does

The plugin reads parameter values from selected elements and writes them into text notes in the active view. Use it to create or update annotations that reflect current model data — floor areas, room names, element marks, or any other parameter value.

Key capabilities:

  • Parameter-driven text — pull values from any element parameter into text notes.
  • Batch update — update multiple text notes across a view in one operation.
  • Template formatting — define how the text note content should be structured.
  • Multi-element support — link text notes to different elements in the same view.
  • View-specific — operates on the active view without affecting other views.

How it works

  1. Select the elements whose parameter values you want to annotate.
  2. Open Assign Text Note from the BIMStudio ribbon tab.
  3. Choose the parameter to read and the text note format.
  4. Click Assign — text notes are created or updated with current parameter values.

Why BIM teams use Assign Text Note

Annotations that match the model

When a room name changes from "Office" to "Conference Room", the text note on the floor plan should change too. Assign Text Note ensures annotations reflect the latest model state.

Faster documentation

Creating text notes for area callouts, element descriptions, or construction notes is repetitive. The plugin generates them from model data, saving minutes per sheet.

Reduced revision errors

Manual text notes are a common source of revision errors — the model changes but the note stays the same. Automating the connection reduces that risk.

Who benefits most

  • Architects annotating floor plans with room and area data.
  • Drafters producing sheets with consistent text notes.
  • BIM coordinators ensuring annotations match model values.
  • Anyone who has manually typed parameter values into Revit text notes.
