Auto Join: Fix Revit element joins automatically
BIMStudio's Auto Join plugin detects and fixes unjoined or misjoined Revit elements in bulk, eliminating visual artifacts and schedule errors.

Unjoined elements in Revit cause visual artifacts in sections, incorrect quantities in schedules, and failed clash detections. Fixing them one by one with the Join Geometry tool is tedious — especially in large models with hundreds of intersections. Auto Join by BIMStudio detects and resolves these join issues across your entire model in a single operation.
What Auto Join does
Auto Join scans selected elements or the full model, identifies geometry intersections that should be joined, and applies Revit's join operation automatically. It handles walls meeting columns, beams intersecting slabs, and other common cases where elements share geometry but are not yet joined.
Key capabilities:
- Batch joining — process hundreds of element pairs at once.
- Smart detection — identifies which elements actually intersect and need joining.
- Category-aware — handles wall-column, beam-slab, wall-floor, and other standard pairs.
- Unjoin and rejoin — fixes mis-joined elements by unjoining first, then applying the correct join.
- Report generation — tells you how many joins were applied and which elements were processed.
How it works
- Select elements to process, or choose to scan the entire model.
- Open Auto Join from the BIMStudio ribbon tab.
- Choose the join categories (e.g., walls to columns, beams to slabs).
- Click Run — the plugin processes all intersecting pairs.
- Review the report showing how many joins were applied.
Why BIM teams use Auto Join
Clean sections and details
Unjoined elements show double lines, gaps, and overlapping hatches in section views. These artifacts make drawings look unprofessional and confuse contractors. Auto Join eliminates them model-wide.
Accurate quantities
When elements are not properly joined, Revit may double-count material at intersections. A wall that is not joined to a floor might report extra volume. Fixing joins corrects schedule values.
Faster model cleanup
Model reviews often flag dozens of join issues. Fixing them manually means clicking each pair individually — a process that can take hours on a large project. Auto Join handles the entire model in minutes.
Common join scenarios
| Element pair | Problem when unjoined | Auto Join fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wall meets column | Double lines in plan, extra volume | Geometry join applied |
| Beam meets slab | Gap visible in section | Beam joined to slab |
| Wall meets floor | Hatch overlap in section | Clean intersection |
| Wall meets wall | Corner not mitered | Join geometry at corner |
Who benefits most
- BIM modelers cleaning up models before deliverable milestones.
- BIM coordinators running model quality checks.
- Drafters who need clean sections without manual geometry fixes.
- Anyone who has spent hours clicking Join Geometry on element pairs one at a time.
