Duplicate View: Copy Revit views with all overrides and settings
BIMStudio's Duplicate View plugin clones Revit views with visibility overrides, crop regions, and filters intact — faster than Revit's built-in duplicate options.

Revit's built-in view duplication gives you three options — Duplicate, Duplicate with Detailing, and Duplicate as Dependent — but none of them carry over all the customizations you have made. Visibility overrides, filter settings, and view-specific configurations often need to be reapplied manually. Duplicate View by BIMStudio creates complete copies that preserve everything.
What Duplicate View does
The plugin duplicates one or more views while preserving the full configuration: visibility/graphics overrides, applied filters, crop regions, view templates, scale, detail level, and annotation elements. The result is a view that looks and behaves exactly like the original.
Key capabilities:
- Full override preservation — visibility, graphics, and filter settings are carried over.
- Crop region copy — crop boundaries are duplicated exactly.
- Batch duplication — duplicate multiple views at once with a naming convention.
- Independent copies — each duplicate is fully independent, not dependent on the source.
- Naming rules — auto-name duplicates using prefixes, suffixes, or sequential numbering.
How it works
- Select one or more views in the Project Browser.
- Open Duplicate View from the BIMStudio ribbon tab.
- Choose naming convention and duplication options.
- Click Duplicate — new views appear with all settings intact.
Why BIM teams use Duplicate View
No lost overrides
When you duplicate a view in Revit and lose your visibility overrides, you spend time reconfiguring them. Duplicate View keeps everything, so the new view is immediately usable.
Faster multi-discipline views
Creating coordination views for different disciplines often starts from the same base view with different filters. Duplicate View lets you create the base copies quickly, then adjust filters per discipline.
Consistent documentation
When multiple views need the same visual setup — same scale, same crop, same overrides — Duplicate View ensures they all start from the same configuration.
Who benefits most
- BIM coordinators creating discipline-specific coordination views.
- Architects producing multiple plan views per floor (furniture, finish, ceiling).
- Drafters setting up consistent view sets for documentation.
- Anyone frustrated by Revit's built-in duplicate options losing settings.
