Highlight Warning: Visualize Revit warnings directly in your model

Revit warnings accumulate silently. A model with 500 warnings is not unusual, but the warning dialog only shows text — no visual link to where the problem is in the model. Highlight Warning by BIMStudio solves this by coloring the elements associated with each warning directly in your view, turning abstract error messages into visible, actionable markers.

What Highlight Warning does

The plugin reads Revit's warning list and applies color overrides to every element referenced in those warnings. You can see at a glance which elements have issues, where they cluster, and which areas of the model need attention.

Key capabilities:

  • Visual warning map — elements with warnings are colored in the active view.
  • Warning type grouping — different warning types can be distinguished by color.
  • Warning count per element — identify elements with multiple warnings.
  • Zoom to problem — click a warning to navigate directly to the affected element.
  • Clean up mode — clear highlights after fixing issues.

How it works

  1. Open Highlight Warning from the BIMStudio ribbon tab.
  2. The plugin reads all active warnings in the model.
  3. Elements referenced in warnings receive color overrides in the current view.
  4. Review the colored elements — clusters indicate problem areas.
  5. Fix issues, then clear highlights to verify the model is clean.

Why BIM teams use Highlight Warning

Warning reduction campaigns

Many teams run periodic "warning cleanup" sprints. Highlight Warning turns the warning list from a text dump into a visual prioritization tool — fix the areas with the most color first.

Pre-deliverable QA

Before issuing a model, check the view with Highlight Warning active. If key areas light up with warnings, they need attention before the model leaves the office.

Training and onboarding

New team members can see where modeling mistakes are happening in the model. The visual feedback is more intuitive than reading through a warning list.

Who benefits most

  • BIM managers running model health campaigns.
  • BIM coordinators doing pre-issue quality checks.
  • Modelers cleaning up their own work before submitting.
  • Anyone who finds Revit's warning dialog unhelpful for locating actual problems.
