Search Element: Find any Revit element by ID, name, or parameter

Large Revit models contain thousands of elements. Finding a specific one — by its ID from a clash report, by its type name, or by a parameter value — often means scrolling through schedules or manually navigating views. Search Element by BIMStudio gives you a search bar for your entire Revit model.

What Search Element does

Type a search query — an element ID, a type name, a family name, or a parameter value — and the plugin returns matching elements instantly. Select a result to zoom to it in the active view, highlight it, or inspect its properties.

Key capabilities:

  • ID search — paste an element ID from a clash report or audit log and jump directly to it.
  • Name search — find elements by family name, type name, or instance name.
  • Parameter search — search across parameter values (e.g., find all elements where Mark = "A-101").
  • Zoom to element — center the view on the found element with one click.
  • Multi-result handling — when multiple elements match, browse through results.

How it works

  1. Open Search Element from the BIMStudio ribbon tab.
  2. Type your search query (ID, name, or parameter value).
  3. Review the results list showing matching elements with their category and location.
  4. Click a result to select and zoom to the element in the model.

Why BIM teams use Search Element

Clash resolution speed

Clash detection reports reference elements by ID. Without a search tool, you have to use Select by ID, which handles only one element at a time. Search Element streamlines the process by letting you search, find, and navigate in one step.

Model auditing

When an audit report flags specific elements, Search Element lets you jump to each one immediately instead of hunting through views and schedules.

Quick navigation

In a model with hundreds of rooms, doors, or equipment items, finding one specific instance by its mark or name is instant with Search Element — no schedule filtering required.

Who benefits most

  • BIM coordinators resolving clash detection results.
  • BIM modelers finding specific elements flagged in reviews.
  • Project engineers locating elements referenced in RFIs or change orders.
  • Anyone who has wasted time scrolling through Revit trying to find one element.
